How To Survive A Mercury Retrograde

A partial view of a red planet inn space with text saying How To Survive A Mercury Retrograde

Even if you know nothing about astrology, you’ve probably heard of Mercury retrograde. Mercury is a fast-moving planet and goes retrograde 3-4 times a year. Luckily, this year, 2021, it goes retrograde only 3 times. In astrology, we consider Mercury a personal planet. Therefore, we feel the effects of Mercury’s direction and interaction with other planets in our daily routines. It is the planet of communication, representing our thought process and logic. In addition, it represents local travel, public transportation, mechanisms, siblings, and cousins.

I spend a lot of time thinking about Mercury retrogrades and planning events, trips, and activities around them. So, I hope you find some of my survival tools and techniques helpful.

Things to avoid during a Mercury retrograde:

  • Intense conversations
  • Conflict resolution
  • Interviews or important appointments
  • Signing legal or important documents
  • Submitting your taxes
  • Confirm travel plans

Now, Mercury retrograde isn’t the end of the world as some would have you believe. Yes, delays are likely, so leave earlier to allow for any unforeseen challenges. Here are some typical retrograde examples: the engine light may appear on your dashboard, or you get a flat tire, you might get stuck in a traffic jam, or there may be a delay on the train or bus. We easily miss details during a Mercury retrograde, so make sure you review any documents twice and have a trusted friend look them over for good measure before signing.

Mercury is the messenger, so during a retrograde, miscommunication is likely. As a result, what we say to others may get misconstrued or misread, so consider putting off serious conversations until Mercury goes direct. Check all communications before pressing the send button.

Hiding under the covers during a retrograde is not realistic. So here are ways in which we can take advantage of a Mercury retrograde:

  • Reorganization
  • Preparation of taxes
  • Purging
  • Meditation and contemplation
  • Tackle tasks you’ve put off for whatever reason
  • Take a breath and slow down in general
  • Plan a trip but don’t confirm

Reorganizing and purging are perfect activities for a Mercury retrograde. Clean a closet and donate, recycle, or repurpose clothes and artifacts you no longer use. Sort out your paperwork and purge old records that are no longer valid. Optimizing computer files is another way to use retrograde energy.

Use a Mercury retrograde to slow down, relax, and sink into a healing phase. Consider it an opportunity to reflect on what works or what needs to change.

Please let me know how you survive Mercury retrogrades.
